One week down...

Post a comment

While I still cannot believe school has already begun for the 2009-2010 year, Brianna and Jacob have their first week out of the way. I have to say, it was a short week for each. North Carolina has this crazy idea that they can start on or after the 25th of August, but not a day before. Yep, you guessed it, every school around starts on the 25th. If you ask me, they should wait until after Labor Day. It's not like they are doing a lot of learning that first week or two anyhow. But to be honest, I'm not saying the people in charge of the education NC are the brightest bunch either! Anyhow, they didn't start until Tuesday, and then Jacob was out yesterday (yes, he missed a full day just after 3 days!) for his first visit to Brenner's Children Hospital (more on that below).

Brianna seems to really like her teachers. We know one of them but the other is new to everyone so only time will tell. This year Brianna is definitely trying a lot harder (not that she didn't before) this year because she was promised her very own laptop if she keeps her grades up. You better believe she will do whatever it takes to ensure she reaches her goals too!

Jacob's teacher is the same one he started out with last year. We love her to pieces. She was requested by us simply because she knows Jacob and followed through with everything that went on last year with his education and all the diagnosis that we learned.

Although this blog entry is for school, I should probably update with Jacob's kidney problems in case a family member is reading and we failed to let you know the latest. Jacob saw the pediatric urologist yesterday at Brenner's Children Hospital. He gathered the history, did a physical and is scheduling Jacob for several tests in the very near future. Some of those include a bladder contrast to find out whether fluids are re-entering into his kidneys, find out whether his kidneys are functioning at 100 percent again, and an MRI. He has ordered the MRI because he noticed Jaocb has a sacral dimple on his lower end of the spine. This could be nothing (crossing fingers!!) but it could also have impact on his bladder and kidneys. Jacob is also back on antibiotics for who knows how long. That part, I have to say, scares me. I am always nervous about medications and he already takes medication for adhd and his aspergers/anxiety but long term antibiotics can have effects on a persons liver or other organs. His prescription is wrote out for 90 pills x1 month, 5 refills which seems like an awful lot to me. You can be assured I am addressing this Monday but I am guessing he wrote it out that way but has no intentions on keeping him on them for that length of time. Perhaps he is just putting him on it until he figures out exactly what is going on?
